“I might have been in Verona this evening, but a magnificent natural phenomenon was in my vicinity – Lake Garda, a splendid spectacle, which I did not want to miss, and now I am nobly rewarded for taking this circuitous route… How much do I wish that my friends were with me for a moment to enjoy the prospect, which now lies before my eyes”

J.W. Goethe

Lugana Le Morette

The Lugana DOC wine production area extends along the southern bank of Lake Garda, in the municipalities of Peschiera del Garda, Sirmione, Desenzano del Garda, Pozzolengo and Lonato. The soil of this area was originated from the sediment transport action of the Garda glacier and is characterized by a compact, chalky and marly clay stratification. A clay territory with high salinity levels due to mineral sedimentations, combined with the mild microclimate of the lake, provide a quality wine production. The soil is undoubtedly the true soul of Le Morette production, (typical of) an area considered a small miracle among “Terroir Viticole”.

TERRITORIO-2
Lake Garda, sheltered by the surrounding mountains, benefits from a mild, always breezy and favorable climate that allows a greater range of temperatures, enhancing the fragrances of an area devoted to viticulture. This particular corner of the territory is where the grapevine, like the olive tree, truly finds the ideal microclimate for its best quality expression. Full of historical and natural distinctive traits, from an artistic and architectural background many are the churches, villas and castles that were summer residences for nobility, merchants and historical personalities that can still be admired and visited today. Sirmione, Peschiera, Lazise, Bardolino, Malcesine, and Salò are only a few of the names of the many little villages scattered along the lakeshore where art, history and tradition come together offering some very unique places/ giving us some places that are unique in their kind.
peschiera del garda
Peschiera del Garda

Peschiera del Garda lies on the southern shores of the Lake, in the province of Verona. It is the easternmost municipality of Veneto, at the borders with the cities of Brescia and Mantua, which are in Lombardy.
This little city dates back to the Bronze age and it rose with the Roman Empire; its city planning was revolutionized during the Middle Ages, when its defensive fortifications were built and the city impregnable. These works even changed the flow of Mincio River, creating three different branches that head out of the lake and meet again at the southern point of the historic center and making it of the highest importance for trading during the domination of the Republic of Venice and later on that of the Austrians. Within the fortified walls there’s the typical star-shaped city center, while outside there’s gardens and green areas.
The history of viticulture in our territory seems to have begun right here, hundreds of years ago: some archeological digs brought back to light ancient amphoras which contained some Vitis Silvestris seeds from the Bronze Age.

With their mutterings and rumblings, the flight of these extraordinary birds beat the time of our founder Gino Zenato ‘s days in his vineyards. Gino and his family lived in this exact place, on the western shore of the little lake. This is where he first started the production of vines, his first vineyards, and the actual production of wine.

The choice fell on this particular animal as a symbol of our winery not only because of its elegance, but more importantly because of its meaning: the bond to our land and the the deep respect for Nature and care for the environment we have.

Desenzano del Garda

Desenzano del Garda overlooks the southern shores of Garda Lake, on the Lombardy side in the provice of Brescia, and it’s the most most densely populated area of the entire lake. Lively and dynamic, the history of this small city seem to have its roots in the Bronze Age: some diggings have revealed traces of pile-dwelling villages dating back to that era. The finding of such primitive architectures were considered so important to be included, as of 2011, in the Unesco World Heritage.
Nowadays, you can still visit the ruins of the ancient Roman Villa, built along the Via Gallica between I and III A.D., home and “buen retiro” of the richest citizens of the Empire.

Lazise

Small and pretty, this municipality in the Veneto Region lies on the eastern coast of Garda Lake. Its territory develops completely within the vast morenic amphitheater of Garda, whose hills softly descend toward the Lake.
The name Lazise comes from the Latin word “Lacus”, which means “lake village” and some archeological findings show that there were some pile-dwelling villages already in the Bronze Age. Its history, made of wars, raids and invasions, is quite unruly. Many different states ruled this small town during the centuries: from the Scaligeri to the Serenissima Republic of Venice, through Napoleon, the Lombardo-Veneto State and finally, after the 3 rd Independence war in 1866, passed permanently under the Reign of Italy. Each and every one of them left traces of their dominations which can still be visited today.
